Johnathan Brunson hails from Wilson, NC aka “Wideawake.” Johnathan Brunson is a dually licensed therapist (Licensed Clinical Social worker & Licensed Clinical Addiction specialist). He has been serving within mental health field for 17 years. He is also a Resilience educator (https://resourcesforresilience.com), motivational speaker, educator, trainer, strategist, author, poet and community activist committed to lifelong fight of various social injustices negatively affecting others (specifically African American adolescents). He is Founder of Unafraid to be Gifted, LLC (an organization dedicated to empowering others to not only see and recognize their potential but be empowered to embrace and utilize those various gifts and talents in ways which impact their communities and the world). He is the visionary of www.utbg.tv (a social media platform which promote mental health awareness through commercials, mini movies, and mental health apparel).  

He is worldwide speaker and lecturer which has spoken at conferences within Ghana, West Africa, East Carolina Heart Institute, Detroit Michigan. His subjects has included: “Racial Trauma, African American Men and Depression (Suicide): The Invisible Health Epidemic, Sense of Belonging: How much do I have to lose of me to gain a degree, etc.”  

He received Empower Award during 2015 Lead Awards ceremony at East Carolina University “In recognition of exhibiting the desire and ambition to enable others to realize their leadership potential. Empowering students to believe in themselves and actively participate in leadership is key in creating a change in the community.”
